The Slave Pits of Abhoth

I pray that everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving Day. I managed to finish a rough draft of The Slave Pits of Abhoth. This means that I have gone through it, spell checked it and edited it myself. Thus, there are still going to be errors throughout. Since I have never had more ambition about this project than to do what I have — produce something that I can share with a community that has been very kind to me and as a way to say, “Thank you” — I have no real intention or means to get this thing more seriously edited. However, I do understand that with the technology we have available today that this could be made available in other formats. As such, I would like to make this post an open thread for folks to comment, point out typos, technical problems, errata, criticisms, etc. If there is a real interest, I certainly can explore further other options.

In the meantime, (based upon feedback), I have decided to try Google Drive as a means for people to take a look at this. There are two links. The first is a normal layout one might expect from a .pdf. The second is saved as spreads so that folks can get a feel for how I originally envisioned this project to look. The first link is here. The second is here.

Enjoy and please let me know what you think. And again, thank you.

Glanced through this today . . . It's impressive . . . The contrast between the Christian elements and the Cthulhu Mythos is totally intriguing, and it adds an element of true horror, because of the contast. I think you've really accomplished something here. To make an obviously fun game which is also deep, Wow.
Definitely going to read through it carefully now.

Only took the briefest of glances, but yeah, the layout is exceptionally easy to use, I'm thinking. Lots of food for thought here.

Thanks for sharing. :D

Excellent layout and maps! What level characters do you think will fare best in the adventure?

Hey Dave, there's something I've been wanting to talk with you about. Can you point me to your e-mail?

Like the module that inspired it, I expected mid-level characters to be the ones to take up the challenge; however, there are a couple of encounters that are probably a bit on the difficult side. If handled improperly, I could see a TPK. This, though, is part and parcel of an old school asthetic that I adhere to in my dungeon design.

Is there an easy way to contact you?

Wow.

Thank you for sharing this. I have been looking forward to it since I first saw what you can do, and also read you were working on this. TOTALLY worth the wait. An amazing effort.

Wow. Your maps are amazing, the layout is really easy to use and lots of fun details sprinkled in that spur the imagination. I know you said you did not have much ambition for this project beyond what you have already done, but it would really be a shame if you did not polish this up further and at least offer it on some print on demand service like Lulu.

I did see a ton of typos/grammatical errors, do you have a place that one could note these for you? Most of them were isolated occurrences but the repeated misspelling of "crystal" as "chrystal" stood out (page 36).

Carl, thanks for the kind words, but even more thanks for pointing out the misspelling (which my spell check somehow missed). For the rest, this comment space would be entirely appropriate to note any errors (with a hefty thank you from me for the time and effort).

I dumped the text into a document that I am editing. I should have it done in a day or two, I am about 1/3 of the way finished tonight. I will give you the finished edit ASAP. I am not doing any style editing, just typos and clear grammatical errors.

Awesome! Thank you!

Hi!

I'm making a list of great, free, pickup and play modules. I would like your permission to link to this post and 'Slave Pits of Abhoth' as an example of the kind of adventure that could be readily dropped into a game with some low-prep and re-skinning by a GM. Would you be okay with a link to here from my blog?
