SWCL Adventure Module: The Burnt Village of the Restless Dead

I have slowly been working on my own version of The Temple of Elemental Evil for use with SWCL. Rather than releasing it all at once, I have created the moniker Adventure Tools. This allows me to release each finished section as its own adventure that can be modularly added on to any campaign or any megadungeon. The first release can be found here.

This release is a bit unusual in that it is a surface encounter area that leads to a dungeon rather than a part of the dungeon itself. I will be interested to see if and how this gets used.

As is normal for me, this comes with the disclaimer that I am a hobbyist and have edited this as best as I am able, but there will be mistakes. Please consider the comment section a thread for any typos etc. that you catch. Thank you!

The module can be found here.

  1. Thanks for the new module!

First catch: in the footer there is "The Hermit caves" on every odd page.

  2. No Wandering Monster Table in this module?

    1. Since it is a "haunted" place and a surface encounter area, I didn't see the need. Maybe make a note to the prospective Referee to use whatever WMT is appropriate for the locale in their campaign world?

  3. Last week I ran this module for two different groups with D&D 5th edition. It went quite well, although personally I liked The Hermit Caves better. Both groups avoided the Gatehouse and didn’t met the tengu, nor found the violin. In both cases I changed the temple to the wizard’s tower. Once it was a wizards’ academy – think Hogwarth – and the second time it was the court of a wizard from my campaign – a colleague of the wererat Philbel from the Hermit Caves. In the first game player characters ran a guerrilla war with dire corbies using cinder zombies as weapon/distraction. In the second session, PCs bluffed the corbies to believe they are agents of the evil wizard (master of the giant raven from ST2) and took their treasures and made them help searching the ruins. :)

    1. Thanks for the update! I like what you are doing. Admittedly, I think the Hermit Caves is a better stand-alone. The Village really begs to be attached to something else. Hopefully more will be on the way sooner rather than later (if I can avoid Gamer ADD, that is).
